At the age 3-6 years old a child starts to learn a little bit about grammar but still speaks with telegraphic speech. Soon after learning grammar the child typically starts to over use it. For example, Mom goed to the store, instead of Mom went to the store.

At this age a child will talk in sentences about 5 words long. They wont use much grammar but will use some. They still might overgeneralize grammar but for the most part they will be understandable.
